HC Deb 21 March 1951 vol 485 c280W
61. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that his fish division have refused the Grimsby Fish Merchants' Association to put vegetable parchment for wet fish and greaseproof paper for dry fish in the Class 2 priority for essential food wrappings; and, since without these wrappings fish is attracting dirt during transit, if he will reconsider the decision and make a statement on the position.

Mr. Webb

At the request of my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade, the paper industry is operating a voluntary priority scheme, under which preference will be given to essential demands for wrapping foodstuffs. But I do not think that there is a sufficiently strong case to warrant our asking the industry to put demands from the fish trade for vegetable parchment and grease-proof paper ahead of other more essential requirements.
