HC Deb 21 March 1951 vol 485 c295W
101. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty the conditions under which ex-miners will be released from the Royal Navy, mentioning any classes that are debarred from the scheme.

Mr. Callaghan

With the exception of those employed under United Nations Command in the Japanese and Korean area, the scheme for the release of ex-miners applies to all men of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines now serving on Regular engagements who joined, or rejoined, on or after 1st January, 1949. The men must, at some time before that date, have been employed for at least six months as underground workers, and not be above leading rate in the Royal Navy or corporal in the Royal Marines. Royal Fleet Reservists who have already been called up and National Service men are excluded from the scheme.
