HC Deb 21 March 1951 vol 485 cc307-8W
Mr. Llewellyn

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that in the event of war, the full facilities of Cardiff Docks will be needed and that, owing to lack of trade, these facilities are being impaired; what use he has made of the powers he possesses under Defence Regulations to increase the trade of Cardiff Docks; what use he proposes to make of them; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Barnes

I appreciate that in the event of war it might from time to time be necessary to make intensive use of the facilities at particular ports of which Cardiff might be one. I have no reason to think, however, that the facilities at Cardiff Docks are being impaired through lack of trade. As regards the second part of the question, I have nothing to add to the answer which I gave the hon. Member on 29th January last.
