asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that there is a shortage of Union Jacks in shops; and what steps he is taking to ensure that greater supplies will be made available before the opening date of the Festival of Britain.

There are no restrictions on the manufacture or distribution of Union Jacks. It is not the custom of retailers to hold large stocks of them; but I am assured that sufficient are being produced, and are now available at the wholesale stage, to meet expected demands
