HC Deb 19 March 1951 vol 485 c241W
Mr. Deedes

asked the Minister of Supply if he will consider approaching the National Farmers' Union with a view to a campaign in agricultural areas to round up iron scrap.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

The supply of scrap for the iron and steel industry, including arisings from agricultural areas, is primarily a matter for the industry itself. With the full support of the Iron and Steel Corporation, the British Iron and Steel Federation, in conjunction with the Scrap Merchants' Federation, are organising a home scrap drive. They are in touch with the National Farmers' Union about arrangements to promote the collection of scrap from farmers.
