§ Mr. Emrys Robertsasked the Minister of Education to state the total amount of Exchequer grants towards educational services in Wales in the financial year 1949–50 and in the current financial year.
§ Mr. TomlinsonThe total grants estimated to be payable to local education authorities in Wales (including Monmouthshire) on the basis of the pre-audit returns for 1949–50 amount to £11,799,000, and for 1950–51, on the basis of the revised estimates of authorities, to £12,422,000. Direct grants are made by my Department to a number of schools, colleges, voluntary organisations, minor local authorities and bodies of managers and governors in Wales, but it would entail an unjustifiable expenditure of time and labour to attempt to extract the figures for Wales from the total of these grants for England and Wales as a whole. In addition, Wales benefits from the direct grants made by my Department in aid of non-local services such as educational research and other special educational services.
