HC Deb 15 March 1951 vol 485 c191W
68. Mr. Logan

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that engineers and ship repairers on Merseyside have adopted a ban on overtime pending a decision on wage increase; that an early strike is likely if settlement is not made soon; and what action he is taking.

Mr. Bevan

I regret that although discussions have been proceeding locally for some time no settlement has so far been reached. My officers are in close touch with the parties but adequate machinery exists in the industry to deal with any difficulties. It is the responsibility of both sides to see that this joint machinery is fully and properly used.
