§ 115. Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why the Seychelles Penal Code Bill, Clause 25, proposes to make corporal punishment permissible in view of official statements that corporal punishment for all crimes excepting prison offences, is to be abolished in British colonial areas.
Mr. DugdaleOwing to printing limitations this Bill was published before it had been considered in detail by the Seychelles Government. I am glad to report that there is no intention to change the present law and practice which prohibits corporal punishment and that the Seychelles Government will introduce the necessary amendments in Committee. My right hon. Friend's policy in this matter remains as indicated in his reply to my hon. Friend on 22nd November.
