HC Deb 14 March 1951 vol 485 cc184-5W
127. Mr. Arbuthnot

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will consider allowing service in the Armed Forces to count in assessing establishment of civilians in the Service Departments and thus avoid the position where ex-Service men are dismissed as redundant before those who have not seen active service.

Mr. Jay

The arrangements under which unestablished staff are established, and discharged on redundancy, already take account in various ways, of service in the Armed Forces during the last war. They vary, however, in detail for different classes, under agreements reached with the appropriate staff representatives. If the hon. Member will let me know which particular staff he has in mind, I will let him have further particulars of the principles on which the relative agreement is based.
