61. Mr. Thornton-Kemsley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer which charitable organisations obtain wireless sets free of Purchase Tax.

Mr. Gaitskell

Under Section 2 of the Finance (No. 2) Act, 1945, charities registered under Section 41 of the National Assistance Act, 1948 (which replaces Section 3 of the Blind Persons Act, 1920) can obtain wireless sets free of the tax provided that they make them available exclusively for the use of the blind, and retain ownership of them for that purpose.

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the amount of Purchase Tax paid by the Kent County Council during 1950, in respect of stationery, etc., produced by the county central stores department, for use in their own departments and schools.
