HC Deb 13 March 1951 vol 485 cc141-2W
90. Mr. Harrison

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that the new fees being charged for royalty rights on gramophone records have in many cases been increased as much as 40 times what they were last year; and, in view of the great difficulty thus caused to dancing teachers in carrying out their profession, whether he will include this matter in the examination of the whole subject of copyright which he has undertaken to make.

Mr. Rhodes

I am aware that the fees charged for the public performance of gramophone records have been increased recently in certain cases, but was not aware of increases of the order referred to by my hon. Friend. My right hon. Friend is prepared to include the question of performing rights in gramophone records in the general review of the law of copyright which it is hoped can be begun at an early date.
