§ Mr. Blackasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the number of children and young persons found guilty of offences in the full year 1950.
§ Mr. EdeThe following table gives the provisional figures of persons aged under 14 and aged 14 and under 17 found guilty of offences in the year 1950:
year, and orders have been placed for the production of new sirens to make good deficiencies. The local authority associations have been invited to discuss with the Home Office the part which local authorities should play in re-establishing the warning system.
In the last war a need was felt for sirens which would give more than two types of signal, so as to provide, for example, a warning of the approach of low-flying coastal raiders. Investigations of the possibility of producing an attachment which would have this effect have now reached a stage warranting a trial in a closely built-up area, and arrangements are being made to hold this trial soon in an area centred on Marylebone. Full notice will be given publicly in advance of the date and time proposed for this test. Every effort will be made to reduce to a minimum the inconvenience which may be caused to the public.
