HC Deb 08 March 1951 vol 485 cc96-7W
121. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Minister of Supply what steps he is taking to increase the imports of tungsten.

Mr. J. Freeman

Tungsten ore is at present mainly imported on private account, and importers are primarily responsible for securing adequate supplies. The Ministry of Supply presses for the highest possible quotas in trade agreements with producing countries and is itself negotiating long-term contracts for new or increased production from mines overseas. Production in this country will be re-started as soon as possible.
