HC Deb 08 March 1951 vol 485 cc90-1W
107 and 108. Mr. N. Macpherson

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations (1) what mutual arrangements exist for the exchange of Government-produced documentary films with Commonwealth Governments;

(2) what assistance the Central Office of Information give to Commonwealth Governments for the distribution of Commonwealth documentary films in this country.

Mr. Gordon-Walker

The United Kingdom Government have arrangements with the Governments of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Southern Rhodesia for the exchange of Government-produced or sponsored documentary films. These arrangements cover the non-theatrical use of such films. Each country reserves the right of commercial distribution of its own films to public cinemas in the territory of the other. The United Kingdom Government have also made known to the Government of India their desire to secure, for non-theatrical distribution in the United Kingdom, documentary films produced by that Government.
