HL Deb 06 March 1951 vol 170 cc884-6WA
LORD LLEWELLIN

asked His Majesty's Government how much weight of meat in any form has been exported from this country over a period of twelve months to the last convenient date; to which countries it has been sent; and in what amounts to each.

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE DUCHY OF LANCASTER (VISCOUNT ALEXANDER OF HILLSBOROUGH)

According to the Official Trade Returns, 350 tons of meat of all kinds (including, for example, pharmaceutical offals), other than bacon and ham and meat products, were exported or re-exported in 1950 (excluding supplies sent to the Channel Islands). All the various kinds of meat products are not separately recorded in these Returns, but the figures given therein, supplemented by the records of the Ministry of Food, show that about 1,540 tons were exported or re-exported in 1950. The quantity of meat included in these products varies widely, and the total used is not known, but it would be considerably less than the weight of the finished products. These figures also, of course, include re-exports and returns of certain privately imported commodities found unsuitable for the home market.

The countries to which these exports went and the quantities sent to each are as follows:—

Countries to which consigned Meat of all kinds (except bacon and ham and poultry and game) other than canned, etc. Meat products, including canned meat, sausages, pastes, meat pies, etc.
