HC Deb 05 March 1951 vol 485 c1W
26. Mr. S. Marshall

asked the Minister of Transport what short-term proposals he has in view to remedy the chaotic traffic conditions at St. Giles Circus at the juncture of Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street.

Mr. Barnes

I have no short-term proposals in view. The London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee, in their recently published report on London Traffic Congestion, have suggested a scheme for the construction of slip roads to enable a roundabout system to be operated at this junction. This scheme would cost about £2½ million and must be regarded as long-term. The matter is primarily one for the consideration of the London County Council as improvement authority and I am inviting their views.
