Mr. Llewellyn

asked the Secretary of State for War what was the minimum, maximum and average period of embarkation leave given to the recent draft of the 1st Battalion East Surrey Regiment before they proceeded to Korea.

Mr. Strachey:

On 23rd May, 1951, 23 men of the East Surrey Regiment were included in a draft made up at short notice to reinforce the 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment after it had suffered heavy casualties in Korea. Of these 23 men, two men had five days' leave and 21 had six days' leave.
