HC Deb 26 June 1951 vol 489 cc120-1W
81. Mr. Janner

asked the President of the Board of Trade by what proportion laundry profits have gone up since the rise in laundry prices was allowed; and whether he will now order a return to lower prices.

Mr. Rhodes

I am not aware that laundry profits have risen since the increase in maximum charges in January this year, to which I presume my hon. Friend refers. This increase was no more than sufficient to cover certain increases in costs which could not be absorbed without reducing profits to an unreasonably low level. There have subsequently been further increases in costs, which the Central Price Regulation Committee are now considering.
