§ 113. Mr. P. Smithersasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will make a statement with regard to the riots which occurred in Jamaica on 18th and 19th June in which a number of people were injured.
§ Mr. CookThere have been no riots. Some disorder has occurred at meetings connected with the forthcoming Municipal elections. On the 18th June, a few stones were thrown by hooligans at two meetings in Kingston and at about 11 p.m. the police used tear smoke to prevent a clash between some 1,500 supporters of two political parties. Five persons received slight injuries. Proceedings for assault have been taken against four others.
