Professor Savoryasked the Secretary of State for Air whether, in view of the recent negotiations between the United Kingdom High Commissioner for Germany and the State Secretary of the German Foreign Office, he is now in a position to inform the House whether Heligoland will be restored to the Frisian natives in advance of the agreed date of 1st March, 1952.
§ Mr. CrawleyNo. Particulars of two alternative sites which would be suitable have been given to the German authorities, but no reply has yet been received. While I hope we may be able to advance the date of the release of Heligoland, the hon. Member will realise that, even when a decision has been reached, it will take a little time to make the necessary technical arrangements for the new site.
