HC Deb 04 June 1951 vol 488 c75W
107. Mrs. Braddock

asked the Minister of Supply if he is aware that the supply factory at Radway Green, Alsager, is dumping at the Sand Quarry, Talke Road, Alsager, sawdust, building material, oily waste, rags, rubber, boxes and a green sludge; that live ammunition is included and often explodes; that the dump is often alight and the smell is offensive to the inhabitants in the immediate area; and if he will have an inquiry made into this matter.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

Explosives are not included in the industrial waste deposited in this quarry and the explosions referred to are probably caused by the bursting of used electric lamps. Alternative disposal arrangements for the factory's refuse are at present being considered. In the meantime, every effort will be made to minimise the inconvenience to local residents.
