HC Deb 01 June 1951 vol 488 c53W
Mr. Ian Winterbottom

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps will be taken to claim from the German Federal Government the repayment of United Kingdom expenditure incurred in the occupation of Germany.

Mr. H. Morrison

The question of recovery of the external costs of the occupation of Germany, including the United Kingdom expenditure, has been discussed by His Majesty's Government with the Governments of France and the United States, and it has been agreed that as the regulation of expenditure on such costs is a subject normally dealt with in a peace treaty the question should be deferred until a general peace settlement with Germany.
