§ 65. Major Beamishasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to what extent the increased Purchase Tax, announced in the Budget, will be charged to British subjects living abroad who import a car bought abroad before the Budget announcement; and whether he is aware of the sense of injustice felt by Army officers and others at the present ruling, of which 236W he has been sent details by the hon. and gallant Member for Lewes.
§ Mr. JayCars imported since the Budget are liable under the law to the increased rate of tax, and I cannot make exceptions in favour of British subjects returning to this country.
