HC Deb 04 July 1951 vol 489 c215W
4. Mr. Deedes

asked the Postmaster-General whether, under his regulations, the sharing of a telephone line with a new subscriber is still voluntary for an established subscriber; and whether his officials are empowered to withhold telephones from new subscribers who refuse to share.

Mr. Ness Edwards

Up to the end of 1947 the sharing of telephone lines was voluntary. Since January, 1948, all new and removing residential subscribers have been required to accept liability to share a line as a condition of being given service.
