HC Deb 03 July 1951 vol 489 cc201-2W
66. Mr. Edward Davies

asked the President of the Board of Trade what progress has been made with Argentina for the import of British goods; and whether he will publish a list giving details of the commodities concerned.

Mr. Rhodes

The discussions in Buenos Aires at the Mixed Consultative Committee to which my right hon. and learned Friend referred in his statement in the House on 7th June are taking longer than we had hoped. His Majesty's Ambassador has recently urged on the Argentine authorities the importance of the early issue of import licences.

The discussions cover the whole field of Anglo-Argentine trade apart from the commodities already dealt with under the Protocol of 23rd April. When the Argentine Government issue their instructions to the import licensing authorities we shall publish in the usual way the list of United Kingdom goods for which import licences will be issued.
