HC Deb 02 July 1951 vol 489 cc175-6W
25. Mrs. Braddock

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the unsatisfactory condition of the stokeholds on the troopship "Empress of Australia"; that the ship is 39 years old; that it is not fit for the Far East run; and if he will take steps to take the vessel off this run.

Mr. Barnes

No complaint regarding the stokeholds of this ship has been brought to my notice. I cannot agree that she is unfit for the Far East run, but she is normally employed between this country and Port Said and has only made two Far East voyages since the beginning of 1949.
