§ 76. Mr. Hollisasked the Minister of Education whether the Durham County Council has accepted his ruling that membership of a trade union is not to be compulsory for teachers under their jurisdiction; and what action he is proposing.
§ Mr. TomlinsonI have given no such ruling. What I did was to inform the Durham local education authority that if they persisted in the line of action proposed, and as a result were unable to discharge their statutory obligations under the Education Act, 1944, I should be compelled to take action. I am not aware that this situation has arisen.
