HC Deb 28 February 1951 vol 484 c308W
Mr. Hutchinson

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, in view of the probability that the full number of 19,000 established clerical officer posts in the Civil Service will not be filled owing to the insufficient number of successful candidates at the recent examination, he will consider completing the establishment by reviewing the claims of the ex-service temporary clerks, who have performed their duties with efficiency over a long period of years, irrespective of whether they took part in the recent competition or not.

Mr. Jay

No. I am afraid that the action suggested by the hon. Member would not be timely, and it would also be unfair to other people, such as non-ex-Service temporary clerks who have performed their duties no less efficiently and over as long a period.
