HC Deb 26 February 1951 vol 484 c248W
84. Mr. Sutcliffe

asked the Minister of Transport why the traffic lights at Royton are maintained in position but not in use, in view of the fact that there has been no alteration in the large volume of traffic, and that considerations of safety still make these lights necessary.

Mr. Barnes

These signals, which are of an obsolete type, have broken down and should be replaced by a vehicle-actuated installation unless it is decided that this is unnecessary in view of the "Halt" signs now in position. This question is being discussed between the local authorities concerned and my engineers.
