HC Deb 23 February 1951 vol 484 c237W
Mr. Wakefield

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps are being taken to obtain satisfaction of British creditor claims on Poland.

Mr. Gaitskell

Under the Anglo-Polish Trade and Finance Agreement of 1949 the Polish Government are to pay sterling from time to time into a special account, out of which payments are to be made in respect of agreed United Kingdom claims. On 31st March next the first quarterly payment into the account, amounting to £400,000, is to be made by the Polish Government. But despite protracted negotiations it has not yet proved possible to agree with the Polish Government on the type and amount of the claims to be paid from the account.
