§ Mr. J. GriffithsThe policy of pressing ahead with economic and social development has recently been reaffirmed by the amendment of the Colonial Development and Welfare Act to provide a further £20 million for this purpose. Although rising costs have diminished the real value of the moneys provided under this Act, on the other hand the high prices prevailing for most primary commodities have resulted in increasing the resources locally available in many territories. The scale and pace of development wilt depend largely on the extent to which the Colonies' requirements of capital and consumer goods can be met.
