HC Deb 20 February 1951 vol 484 cc166-7W
52. Mr. Maudling

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proportion of the new National Savings Certificates purchased during the first week of issue were purchased in blocks of 500 certificates.

Mr. Gaitskell

I regret that this information could not be made available without a disproportionate expenditure of time and effort on a detailed examination of certificate sales.

71. Mr. Janner

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in view of the fact that many people who hold National Savings certificates of early issues are uncertain as to how they stand regarding the earning of further interest, he will make a statement on the subject.

Mr. Gaitskell

I welcome this opportunity to confirm that all earlier issues of National Savings certificates continue to attract interest as before. Full information about interest earned on different issues is available in a leaflet which may be obtained from post offices and savings centres or banks.
