§ Mr. Boyd-Carpenterasked the Postmaster-General if he will now make a statement on the subject of the claim to recognition by the Engineering Officers (Telecommunications) Association.
§ Mr. Ness EdwardsAs the House is aware, I have been endeavouring to find a constructive solution to this problem and have had many discussions with a view to effecting a reconciliation of the divergent views, and activities of the bodies concerned. Unfortunately, my hope of achieving agreement has not 91W materialised and I have therefore appointed a Committee with the following terms of reference:
To examine the question of recognition of organisations representing Post Office departmental classes of staff, having regard particularly to the formation of new staff Associations within the field of existing recognised associations, and to advise the Postmaster-General on
- (1) General recognition policy with regard to Post Office classes, and
- (2) outstanding claims for recognition.
Sir Maurice Holmes, C.B.E., K.C.B., has agreed to act as Chairman of the Committee and the other members are the hon. Baronet the Member for Abingdon (Sir R. Glyn), Mr. Lincoln Evans, C.B.E., Mr. Harold F. Farrar. C.B.E., and Miss Florence Hancock, C.B.E.
