HC Deb 15 February 1951 vol 484 cc94-5W
94. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has considered a resolution from the Circus Proprietors of Great Britain, a copy of which has been sent to him, asking him to ban the importation of circuses from Germany into this country, and, in view of the inevitable suffering of wild animals in connection with circuses and the possibilities of danger to the public and staff, if he will take steps to prohibit such importation.

Mr. Ede

I have seen the resolution. Legislation would be needed to prohibit the importation of circuses and I can hold out no hope of introducing it.
