§ 73. Mr. J. Hyndasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what were the principal recommendations of the Northern Rhodesian Land Commission of 1947; which of its recommendations have been implemented; and whether any Africans have been dispossessed as a result.
§ Mr. J. GriffithsI am sending my hon. Friend a copy of the Report of this Commission, which was published in 1946, and a copy of the Order-in-Council of 1947 which gave effect to most of its detailed recommendations. As a normal rule Africans would be required to move from one area to another only where this was necessary in the general interests of 61W the community. I have not full details of any such cases, but I will communicate with the Governor and write to my hon. Friend.
