§ Mr. BarnesRoad maintenance works in county boroughs are not eligible for grant, but this particular work required my authorisation under Defence Regulation 56A and was the subject of an application for sanction to a loan. The street in question carries only a light volume of traffic and the work, which was estimated to cost £20,000, was not regarded as of sufficient importance and urgency to justify immediate approval.
