HC Deb 05 February 1951 vol 483 c175W
Mr. Perkins

asked the Minister of Health how many people suffering from tuberculosis in Gloucestershire are awaiting admission to a hospital or sanatorium at the present time, as compared with the same time of year in 1945, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1950, respectively.

Mr. Marquand

The number at 31st December, 1950, including the county boroughs of Bristol and Gloucester, was 197. The corresponding figures for the years 1945 to 1949 were respectively 211, 271, 258, 244 and 270.

Mr. J. N. Browne

asked the Minister of Health what evidence he has that the increased incidence of tuberculosis is due to malnutrition, including insufficiency of meat.

Mr. Marquand

I have no such evidence. There was a marked drop in new cases of tuberculosis last year.
