§ 93. Mr. Awberyasked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that a vessel was transferred from the ship-repairing yard at Bristol to the Continent to undergo repairs, causing unemployment among this section of workers; and what steps he is taking to discourage a repetition of this.
§ Mr. BarnesI assume my hon. Friend refers to the "Birmingham City" which has recently left Avonmouth for Antwerp for loading and completion of repairs. To confine the repair of British ships to repair in this country would be contrary to the liberalisation agreements reached in the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation to which His Majesty's Government are a party.
