HC Deb 05 February 1951 vol 483 cc163-4W
69. Dr. Broughton

asked the Minister of Food what action he intends taking to arrest the rising retail price of fish.

Mr. Webb

Retail fish prices are high at present but the weekly surveys made by my Department show that over the country as a whole there has been no sharp increase in recent weeks. I have already, on a number of occasions, explained to the House the serious difficulties involved in reimposing a full scheme of control or a temporary measure. Given reasonable conditions, increased landings of fish are expected this month by the trade and I am waiting to see what effect this will have on prices before making any final decision to reimpose control.
