HC Deb 05 February 1951 vol 483 c157W
8. Mr. G. Jeger

asked the Minister of National Insurance how many cases were helped by Assistance Board payments; what was the total amount paid out during the past year; and how many of the applicants were holders of post-war credit certificates.

Dr. Summerskill

During 1950 the average weekly number of persons to whom assistance grants were paid direct was about 1,280,000, the needs of wives and other dependants being taken into account in the grants. The total amount paid was about £57,500,000. The number of applicants who held post-war credit certificates is not known.
