HC Deb 05 December 1951 vol 494 c253W
13. Mr. Philips Price

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in connection with the draft treaty which is to govern the future relations of Germany and the Western Powers, he will secure that, in the event of an attempt to overthrow the legitimate government of Western Germany either from the Right or the Left, powers will be retained by the Western Governments to go to the aid of the Federal German Government.

Mr. Eden

It was agreed at the meeting which my United States and French colleagues and I had recently in Paris with the German Federal Chancellor that the draft Agreement on General Relations with the German Federal Republic, of which we provisionally approved the text, would not be signed or published at present. But I can assure the hon. Member that the point he has raised was taken very carefully into account by the four Governments in formulating the draft Agreement.
