HC Deb 05 December 1951 vol 494 c261W
69. Mr. E. Wakefield

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he is aware that telephone subscribers are sometimes left in ignorance for a considerable period of time, when they are not themselves initiating calls, that their telephones are out of order; and whether he will take steps to remedy this deficiency in the telephone service.

Mr. Gammans

This could only be avoided by regular tests of every subscriber's line, which would not be justified. I am not aware of any general difficulty of this kind, but if my hon. Friend has a particular case in mind, I shall be glad to make inquiry.
