HC Deb 04 December 1951 vol 494 cc223-4W
95. Mr. Pryde

asked the Minister of Labour if he can state the number of workers affected by the reduction of working, hours in tweed mills in Peebles-shire.

Sir P. Bennett

I am having inquiries made and will write to the hon. Member.

Sir P. Bennett

I am glad to say that progress has been made in implementing the recommendations of the working party. The appropriate authorities are co-operating in the widening of opportunities for the employment of blind persons in the Civil Service, and other suggestions and recommendations in the report are being followed up with Government Departments and voluntary organisations concerned.

A number of the recommendations affect local authorities and a circular to be issued jointly by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Labour is now being considered by the Associations of local authorities.
