HC Deb 04 December 1951 vol 494 c250W
Mr. Watkins

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will give a list of the commons in Wales which were requisitioned during the war and are now held, and the acreage producing food; and whether he will make arrangements before December, 1952, to prevent this arable land from going out of cultivation.

Sir T. Dugdale

The following areas of common land are at present in cultivation under requisition by the county agricultural executive committees in Wales:

Acres
Flintshire:
Halkyn Mountain 149
Glamorganshire:
Gellygaer Common 11
Stallingdown, Cowbridge 63
St. Hilary Down, Cowbridge 23
Montgomeryshire:
Y Golfa, Welshpool 6
Radnorshire:
Broadheath Common 26
Disgwylfa Hill 160
438

Acquisition of the requisitioned land at Walkyn Mountain is proceeding under Section 85 of the Agriculture Act, 1947, in order to secure its permanent full and efficient use for agriculture; but I have yet to consider whether or not requisition of the other areas should be prolonged beyond 1952.
