HC Deb 04 December 1951 vol 494 cc220-1W
85. Sir W. Wakefield

asked the Minister of Works how many office buildings partly or wholly in use for Government purposes have been built in London since the end of hostilities; and how many incorporate car parks within the structure and within the premises as a whole.

Mr. Eccles

Forty-nine such buildings have been built since the end of the war. Three have car parks within the structure and 28 have parking space outside.

86. . Sir I. Fraser

asked the Minister of Works how many buildings have been erected for use as Government offices since the war; what was the cost; what was the total superficial area; and how many remain to be completed.

Mr. Eccles

One hundred and seventy buildings with a total area of about 5 million square feet have been completed at a cost of approximately £20 million since the war for use as Government offices (of which nearly 2 million square feet has been provided in offices erected by private developers for lease to the Govment). Sixty-six offices to provide a further 2 million square feet are under construction. During this period the amount of property held on requisition by the Government for office purposes was reduced by 12.8 million square feet.
