HC Deb 04 December 1951 vol 494 c206W
Mr. M. MacPherson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking to ensure that land is put to its best agricultural use.

Mr. J. Stuart

Agricultural Executive Committees are exercising wide powers delegated to them under the Agriculture (Scotland) Act, 1948, to secure the efficient use of agricultural land in Scotland. Valuable assistance in the same direction is being rendered by the Advisory Services of the three agricultural Colleges. Further, the Government's agricultural policy as a whole is designed in the national interest to achieve the maximum and most efficient production of home-grown foodstuffs.
