HC Deb 04 December 1951 vol 494 cc240-1W
133. Mr. Hurd

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will have a further survey made of living conditions in the temporary hutments at Sunnyside Camp, Theale, and other hutted camps in the Bradfield Rural District Council area, so that a definite programme may be settled with the council for closing down these camps and rehousing the families living there.

Mr. H. Macmillan

I am aware of the conditions at these camps, and do not think that a further survey is necessary. The local authority, the Bradfield Rural District Council, propose to close them progressively as opportunity offers, and the housing allocations made to them take into account the re-housing needs of the occupants. More than one-third of the occupying families have already been rehoused.

138. Air Commodore Harvey

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will investigate the distressing circumstances in which people are living in the hutments at Tytherington, Macclesfield; and if he will allocate an additional number of houses for this area.

Mr. H. Macmillan

I am aware of the conditions of these huts. The local authority's housing allocation was increased at the end of last year by 19, partly in order to facilitate rehousing of the occupants. Since then five families have been rehoused and three other families have been allotted tenancies of houses nearing completion.

140. Mr. W. W. Astor

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware of the conditions of the huts in Haslemere Camp, near High Wycombe; and what steps he will take to improve the huts or provide alternative accommodation.

Mr. H. Macmillan

These huts are administered by the Wycombe Rural District Council. The council have discretion to carry out minor works of repair and they may seek my approval to major works as necessary.
