HC Deb 03 December 1951 vol 494 cc193-4W
80. Sir H. Williams

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will extend the provisions of the Order under which motor vehicles may be left unlit in streets which are adequately lit and where there is no danger of accident because the vehicles are unlit.

Mr. Maclay

Under the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations, 1950, a Chief Officer of Police may consent to the parking of vehicles without lights in any authorised parking place if he is satisfied that it is adequately lighted. I do not propose to extend the Regulation as suggested because on present evidence I am not satisfied that it is practicable to define in general terms those places where the parking of unlighted vehicles would be free from danger in all circumstances.
