HC Deb 03 December 1951 vol 494 c199W
102. Mr. Gibson

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will give an assurance that there will be no reduction in the standards of housing accommodation provided by both local authorities and private builders, and that sizes of rooms and other amenities will be maintained up to those laid down in the current Housing Manual.

Mr. Marples

My right hon. Friend hopes that local authorities will use their 1952 allocations to build houses of the types described in the circular he sent them on 27th November. These types maintain present standards of room sizes and living space within a smaller superficial area. As regards houses erected by private builders under licence, the size will take account of the size and composition of the proposed occupier's family, subject to a maximum of 1,500 square feet and the general specification must be equivalent to those laid down in the scheme operated by the National Housebuilders Registration Council.
