§ 1. Mr. Nigel Daviesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in view of the present official proposal to place existing public houses in Harlow under State management, if he will give an undertaking that this will not be done until it has been clearly ascertained that public opinion in the area favours this step.
§ Mr. Ede:Parliament has decided in the Licensing Act, 1949, that all new towns should be State management districts. In accordance, however, with the undertakings which I gave when the Bill for that Act was before the House. I am seeking the advice of the local advisory committees constituted under the Act on the extent to which I should take over existing public houses.
